Simple Paula Red Apple Crisp

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups Paula Red apples (about 6 medium), peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • For the topping:

    • 3/4 cup rolled oats

    • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

    • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish or rustic ceramic dish (like the one shown in Image 0).

  2. Toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, 1 tbsp flour, and cinnamon directly in the baking dish until coated. Spread evenly.

  3. In a medium bowl, combine the oats, 3/4 cup flour, and brown sugar. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.

  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving warm, perhaps with vanilla ice cream.
