The Anchor Pub in Surrey |
Helloooo from London! You may know that I lived here for 24 plus years. I have come back for a visit this summer. It is amazing to do touristy things when you don't live here! As you are all never far from my mind, I decided to eat something truly English while I was at the pub and share a recipe with you. Actually it has nothing to do with our share this week but I figure we might get peas again perhaps when it is colder.
My lunch was Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas! Mushy peas are the traditional accompaniment to authentic British fish and chips. In the UK they would be traditionally made using marrowfat peas, but this version uses frozen peas which I think makes it taste fresher and appear greener. For all the English CSA members, I realize this recipe may be a wee bit different than what you normally make. Please feel free to comment below!

My lunch! |
Ingredients:
Serves: 4
- 300g (11 oz) frozen peas
- 4 tablespoons double cream
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Preparation:
- Bring a shallow pot of lightly salted water to the boil over medium high heat. Add frozen peas, and cook for 3 minutes, or until tender.
- Drain peas, and transfer to a blender or large food processor. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper to peas, and process until blended, but still thick with small pieces of peas. Adjust seasonings to taste, and serve immediately.
Note: You can add more cream to make it mushier!
